Over the past few weeks, Lawrence County has seen 20 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total cases to date to 50.

With more than a third of cases in the county taking place recently and states across the country seeing spikes of the virus, it is clear the pandemic is far from over.

And it is more important than ever to continue to practice social distancing and follow health guidelines.

On our website, we recently polled readers of The Tribune as to the way they are approaching day-to-day life since the state reopened.

It was encouraging that the results showed that most are still treating the situation seriously and have not wrongly assumed things are back to normal.

In fact, a third said they are still staying home, unless it was absolutely necessary.

With summer officially beginning this week, the urge to get out and enjoy things is overwhelming.

But any travel comes with a risk, as clusters of cases in West Virginia linked to beach travel show.

Summer fun is still possible. By no means should anyone stay cooped up all year.

Just do not assume that the threat is any less present.
