Ironton High School’s yearbook “The Owl” gave these short descriptions of the senior athletes for the Class of 1936:
Paul Anderson: Paul worked hard on the reserve football team for three years and although he never received a letter, he was a good “scrapper.”
Charles Crawford: Chuck battled on the reserves for two years and made his letter his senior year.
Paul Grubb: Grubble played basketball and football and earned letters in both ports.
Ralph Hale: Hales was our star track man.
Arno Keyes: Arno played second string center on the football team and first string guard in basketball.
Charles Keyes: Keyes, after being awakened by Coach Gallagher, did some of the best blocking on the team.
Joe Leach: There was no harder worker than Joe on the team this year and he really earned his letter.
Clellan McAfee: Clellan made the opposing backs live hard when they went over his position. His shoes will be hard to fill.
George McAfee: Lefty had the ability to come through in a pinch and will be sorely missed by Gallagher.
Ellis Payne: Ellis was a scrapper both in football and basketball and earned his letter in basketball.
Carl Rose: Carl was one of the outstanding athletes graduating this year. His position at guard will be hard to fill.
Irvin Stern: Goo Goo tried very hard and finally made the grade in his senior year, playing his best ball in the Dayton game.
Ralph Waldo: Waldo played basketball, earning letters in his junior and senior years.
