FRANKLIN FURNACE — After some tough losses, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings needed something to help them get well.

The Lady Vikings got well by playing well as they beat the Green Lady Bobcats 53-29 Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We shot pretty well and we played pretty good defense. We got a little sloppy a time or two, but overall I liked our effort,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Lisa Bryant.

The offense got well as three players hit double figures led by Kayla Hayes with 19 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Malenna Davis and Megan Johnson scored 10 points each. Johnson also had nine rebounds for the Lady Vikings (6-10, 5-6).

Jenna Crawford scored 14 points for Green (1-15, 1-10). Erin Imes had seven rebounds, Dinah McCloud had six rebounds and Gidget Timberman added five rebounds and six steals.

Hayes had eight points in the first quarter as Symmes Valley took a 13-10 lead. Crawford scored six of her points in the quarter.

Hannah Maynard scored all five or her points in the second quarter as the Lady Vikings went up 25-17 at the half.

Hayes scored five points and Davis hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter while the defense held Green to four points and the Lady Vikings pulled away to a 39-21 lead.

“We came out and settled down for the third quarter and showed some patience on the offensive end,” said Bryant. “We still need to cut down on our turnovers.”

The Lady Vikings play their final road game at New Boston Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m.
