Lisa Karr

Lisa Gaye Saunders Karr, a native of Ironton, and a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at the age of 65.

She is survived by her spouse of 43 years, James E. Karr; her daughter, Amber Renee’ Karr Ersrud; two grandchildren, Kadlin Renee’ and Kasen James; son-in-law, Hans J Ersrud; mother, Joyce Ann Keating Saunders, brother, Edward Kevin Saunders and his wife, Vicki; sister, Amanda Saunders Alleman and her husband, Charles; brother-in-law, Alan Karr and his wife, Chris; sister-in-law, Karen Hinds and her husband, Steve; nieces and nephews, Nikki Pierce, Michele Cox, Heather Saunders, Jake Saunders, Matthew Roppolo, Kristen Shoemaker, Magan Everhardt and Jeremy Talbot. She was proceeded in death by her father, Donald Lee Saunders; mother- and father-in-law, Jack and Norma Karr; grandparents, Edward and Elsie Keating, and Ralph and Mildred Saunders.

Lisa worked at J.C. Penny in the money room, the Capital Bank Credit Department, Parkview Baptist Preschool as a teacher’s aide and older 4’s teacher, Pennington Bio Medical Center. Lisa retired from the Louisiana State Fire Marshal office in 2018.

She enjoyed reading, writing children stories and her wreath crafts.

Members of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal Honor Guard will act as pallbearers, as well as Boyd Petty and Mike Polito of the Fire Marshal Office, with nephews, Matthew Roppolo Jake Saunders and Jeremy Talbot as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday from noon until funeral service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bill Pruitt presiding over the services. Interment will follow on the grounds of Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Lisa fought a hard fight, never gave up and always had faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be missed by many friends and relatives. Special thanks to the medical staff of Gastro Associates as well as the Tulane Transplant Team. Also, the outstanding medical staff at both OLOL and Tulane Medical Center.

Johnie Holley Sr.

Johnie Lee Holley Sr., 77, of Proctorville, passed away Saturday Dec. 7, 2019, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.

Visitation was Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

Peggy Shoemaker

Peggy Shoemaker, 87, of South Point, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point.

Jerry Stamper

June 3, 1940–Dec. 8, 2019

Jerry Lee Stamper, 79, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2019.

Jerry was born June 3, 1940, in Lawrence County, a son to the late Cecil and Carrie (LeMaster) Stamper.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Grace (Yates) Stamper.

Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Pedro High School and was a retired overhead operator for Enco Alloy’s Alpha Portland Cement.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Stamper.

He is survived by a son, Tim (Leslie) Stamper, of Minford; a daughter, Rebecca Gustin, of Ironton; two sisters, Linda Daniels, of Highland Heights, Kentucky and Faye Tyo, of Ironton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Funeral service will be Friday, 1 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Brother Dave Schug officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery and visitation will be Friday, 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Joyce Bennett

Joyce L. Bennett, 84, of Proctorville, formerly of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019 at Wyngate at Rivers Edge.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.

Amy Melissa Slone, 45, of Kenova, West Virginia, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2019 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.

Robert Melvin, 95, of Coal Grove, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2019 at Ashland Hospice Care Center.

Funeral and Masonic services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with Pastor Brad Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be Friday, noon until the time of the service at the funeral home burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

Frances J. Moore, 68, of Ironton, died Monday Dec. 9, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer.
