CHESAPEAKE — The South Point Pointers may have been flat early, but they pumped it up in the second half.
The Pointers led at the half despite a lackluster performance, but scored four times in the second half to beat the Chesapeake Panthers 4-2 in an Ohio Valley Conference soccer game on Tuesday.
“We came out really flat and just went through the motion early one,” said Pointers’ coach Zach Jenkins. “I was pleased with our technical skills and possession tonight, but we have to execute better offensively.”
An unassisted goal by Tyler Lilly broke the scoreless tie and put the Pointers up 1-0 at the 29-minute mark of the first half.
Mason Kazee then scored his first career goal on a shot off the crossbar from 25-feet out three minutes later with an assist from Braylon Balandra and it was 2-0 at the break.
Chesapeake scored first in the second half at the 43-minute mark on a free kick by Jacob Spears.
But Seth Anderson answered at the 70-minute mark with his first career goal off an assist from Isaiah Nease and it was 3-1.
“Seth has played defense most of his career, so that was his first career goal,” said Jenkins.
“In fitting style, he darted between two guys to finish it. He works his tail off to win many 50/50 balls in the midfield.”
Balandra then has a nice feed to Lilly for the final South Point goal with 76:00 on the clock.
Chesapeake got a goal from Brady Wilson on a corner kick three minutes later.
Brody Blackwell had six saves for the Pointers.
South Point (2-3, 2-1) visits Portsmouth on Thursday in a league game.
