Lady Tigers top SP for 21st win

SOUTH POINT — The Big Orange Machine keeps running on all cylinders.
The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers ran their record to 21-1 on Wednesday with a 5-3 Ohio Valley Conference win over the South Point Lady Pointers.
Mary Beth Burton worked the first five innings for the win as she gave up five hits, three earned runs, struck out four and walked three.
Keegan Moore went the final two innings for the save as she struck out five and gave up one hit.
The Lady Tigers had 13 hits but couldn’t bunch them.
Burton was 3-4, Taiya Hamlet 3-4 with a double and two runs batted in, and Haylee Stevens was 3-4 with an RBI.
Sara Allens and Olivia Perkins homered for South Point.
Ironton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Peighton Rowe go a one-out double and scored on Hamlet’s hit who went to second on the throw home. Moore then singled to score Hamlet and went to second on the throw home.
Stevens singled to score Moore and went to third on an outfield error. Riley Schreck walked and Stevens scored on a passed ball.
Allen hit a two-out solo home run as the Lady Pointers got a run in the third.
Ironton got the run back in the fourth when Burton singled, Rowe hit into a fielder’s choice but Hamlet had an RBI double.
South Point got its final two runs in the sixth on a single by Megan Epperly and a two-run homer by Perkins.
