Vallie Mae Poston

Jan. 16, 1938 — March 31, 2019

Vallie Mae Poston, 81, of Ironton, and formerly of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Harbor Healthcare in Ironton.

Born Jan. 16, 1938 in Huntington, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Mary Dempsey Harless.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Lee, Katherine Sparks, and Betty Jo Bradley; two brothers, Ralph and Fred Harless; and the father of her children, Edward Wilford Poston.

She was a hairdresser and a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church of Portsmouth. Survivors include three daughters, Beth and Rich Scarberry, of Portsmouth, Kimberly and Jeffrey Fout, of Waterloo, and Deborah Poston, of Ironton; four brothers, Delbert, William, Junior and Charles Harless; six grandchildren, Megan Campbell, Bradley Campbell, Jeffrey B. Fout, Andrew Stoup and Stacey Edward Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Helen Rose Cooper, Branden Fout, Olivia Dean and Collin Cooper; and her dear, sweet friend and caretaker, Teresa Dean.

Funeral services will be conducted noon today at Chapman’s Mortuary, with Pastor Lisa Lore officiating. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery, Salt Rock, West Virginia.

Jerry Eugene Fields

May 24, 1938 – March 30, 2019

Jerry Eugene Fields, 80, of South Point, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019 at his home.

The Coal Grove native was born May 24, 1938, son of the late Austin and Myrtle Murray Fields. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Robinson; a granddaughter, Kylie Sue; and a great-granddaughter, Baileigh.

Jerry enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially golf and football. He was an outstanding football player at Dawson-Bryant High School and The Ohio State University. After college, Jerry played professional football for the New York Titans (now Jets) and the Montreal Alouettes. He had a special love for his church family, Arabia Baptist Church, where he was a life-long member.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Joyce Ciccolella Fields; four daughters, Trudi Fields of South Point, Amy (David) Baker of Edwardsville, Illinois, Nikie (Dalton) Carey of Ironton; and step-daughter Kara Ciccolella (Steve) Brown of Waterloo; two sons, Brian (Cristi) Fields of Dayton and Murray (Ann) Fields of Munster, Indiana; one niece, Julie (Bobby) Wagner of Shade; one nephew, Jonathan (Kathleen) Robinson of Mentor; fourteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of other loved family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, 802 Solida Road, South Point, with Ron Henderson officiating. Visitation will be from noon – 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Deborah Sowards

Deborah L. Sowards, 65, of Chesapeake, died Saturday March 30, 2019 in the Hospice House of Huntington. She is survived by her husband, Bobby M. Sowards.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday. Burial will follow in New Zion Cemetery, Willow Wood.

Jimmy Ray Aldridge. 66, of Ironton, died at the VA Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Betty Lou Martin Maynor

Betty Lou Martin Maynor, 88, of Huntington, West Virginia, died on March 30, 2019.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Roy F. Maynor, Jr.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. today at New Baptist Church, 610 28th St., Huntington, West Virginia.

The funeral service will follow at the church at 1:30 p.m. led by Pastor Trent Eastman. Entombment will be at Woodmere Cemetery Memorial Chapel, Huntington, West Virginia.
