Earlier this week, Ohio Supreme Court Justice Judi French stopped by Chesapeake High School to speak with members of the student council.

French held a question and answer session with students, detailing the workings of the court and also gave her insight on how nonpartisan elections for judicial seats work.

Impressively, the students had no shortage of questions for her and had an engaging discussion with the justice.

She is the latest public figure to meet with the group, following Lawrence County Coroner Dr. Ben Mack, Ironton Mayor Katrina Keith and U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio.

Principal Ben Smith said he has had an aim to provide a mix of both male and female leaders from all levels of public service.

We thank French for the visit, commend the school for setting this up, with help from Johnson’s office, and applaud the students for showing an interest.

It is not every day that a person gets to speak with such leaders and the students used it to their advantage and made the most of the experience.

And we urge more leaders from throughout the region and state to drop by.

They’ll be impressed with what Chesapeake High has in store for them.
