Dawson-Bryant sixth grader led effort

Marlee Malone’s love for animals has been very evident, as the Dawson-Bryant sixth grader has led donation efforts to help the Lawrence County Animal Shelter for the past couple of years. This year was no different, and she presented what she has collected over the past month or so to the shelter last Friday.

Earlier this year, Malone set up a GoFundMe for the shelter, which raised more than $550 that she presented to the shelter last month.

In addition, the has been collecting more funds and supplies at her school, as well as with the help of a couple area businesses serving as drop off locations, that she brought to the shelter last week.

This past Friday, Malone, 11, presented the shelter with $110 in cash, along with numerous other items to help the organization out, including dog and cat food, leashes, collars, toys, cleaning supplies and more.

The Lawrence County Animal Shelter is a no-kill shelter that adopts out dogs and cats, as well as works with more than 50 rescues throughout the United States and Canada.

Anyone interested in adopting an animal from the shelter can do so for $30 per dog and $15 per cat or kitten.

Donations are also always welcome at the shelter, which is located at 1302 Adams Lane in Ironton.
