No charges will be filed in the case of a dead infant found inside of an Ironton residence in April of this year after the Lawrence County Grand Jury returned a No Bill against Constance S. McAfee.
On April 17, 2018, Ironton Police were called to the home of McAfee, where they discovered that she had given birth in the home, unassisted by medical professionals. According to McAfee, the baby was deceased at birth.
Along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office, the Ironton Police Department conducted an investigation into the matter.
The Lawrence County Grand Jury heard testimony relating to this event, which included opinions given by Lawrence County Coroner Dr. Ben Mack.
Mack opined that the cause of death was intrauterine fetal demise, and that based upon his investigation, it did appear that the infant had deceased prior to delivery and therefore the grand jury found that no charges would be filed as a result of the incident.
