Ironton aLive is looking for a queen.

On Saturday, the group is holding its inaugural Miss Ironton Area pageant.

The Queen’s pageant will be at 7 p.m. at the Ro-Na Theater for ages 16-21.

“I don’t remember there ever being an Ironton queen,” said Sam Heighton, executive director of Ironton aLive and lifelong Ironton resident. “But we might have at some time in the past.”

At 1 p.m., there will be pageants for other ages including six months to six years of age for boys in the Mister category and for the girls Miss category.

There is also a Miss category for ages 7-15. There will be a winner, first, and second place with option categories included for all entrants.

He said Ironton aLive thought a pageant would be a great community event, get a lot of area kids of different ages involved and bring people into downtown Ironton.

“We think in years to come it will be a great event,” Heighton said.

The Queen winner will have duties to represent Ironton at various activities throughout the year.

“It would be things like representing Ironton at the Heritage Festival, maybe the even the Tuesday Night Concerts,” Heighton said. “And, of course, the Memorial Day parade. Can’t have a parade without a queen.”

The queen contestants will be required to introduce themselves and answer a question. A list of questions will be given to each candidate prior to the pageant.

There will be a winner, first and second place and a Miss Congeniality chosen by peers and committee.

Deanna Patrick or Cheryl Cleary are the pageant coordinators.

“They have years of experience putting on pageants,” Heighton said.

Interested candidates from Lawrence and Scioto counties in Ohio, Boyd and Greenup counties in Kentucky and Cabell County in West Virginia may call Heighton at 740-533-7951 for more information and applications.

Proceeds from the pageant will go towards the purchase of new Christmas decorations for the city.
