After the Lawrence County Commission approved a motion to give $10,000 to the Ironton Senior Center earlier this month, the check was dropped off to the center Wednesday morning.
“We’re very appreciative of everything the commissioners have done,” Mike Payne, director of senior services at the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization (CAO), said. “The plan is to use the money for senior meals operations, and also for activities and other things for the seniors at the Ironton Senior Center.”
The CAO is over the Ironton Senior Center and its meals, as well as responsible for just the meals at the Sybene-Chesapeake Senior Center.
“It’s not cheap to run a meals operation for both locations, but this money will help the Ironton Senior Center out a lot,” Payne said. “We’re just very appreciative to the county commissioners for this.”
Commissioner DeAnna Holliday, who was on hand to drop the check off on Wednesday along with Payne, fellow commissioner Freddie Hayes Jr. and Lawrence County Municipal Court Judge and common pleas candidate Donald Capper, said she hopes the money will be a big benefit for the Ironton seniors.
“We are hoping the seniors can use this money to enhance their activities, food programs and any other needs they may have,” she said.
