Will be up through Monday, Oct. 8
An art exhibit currently on display at the Briggs Lawrence County Public Library in Ironton features a number of Kentucky artist Shelby Steele’s oil and acrylic paintings.
A self-taught artist from Lee, Kentucky, Steele now lives in Wurtland, Kentucky with his wife, Sharon, who is also an artist. He said he and his wife enjoy traveling together with a camera and painting supplies, and the beach paintings on display are from a recent trip that the couple took.
Steele worked for the railroad for 43 years, traveling over most of the eastern United States, something he said has led to inspirations for many of his paintings. He added that he got his love for painting when he was a young boy and his grandfather painted most of his life.
Steele retired two years ago, and now enjoys his time painting more and gardening. He has won many ribbons and awards, as well as sold many paintings at numerous art shows he has entered, both near and far. He is also a member of the Tri-State Arts Association.
To purchase a painting, or order a commission, contact Steele at 606-225-5928. His display will be up at the Ironton library through Monday, Oct. 8.
