Lady Vikings split matches; Trojans escape Redwomen

WILLOW WOOD — It was three sets but in different directions.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings swept the Coal Grove Lady Hornets in three sets on Monday, but lost three straight to the Beaver Eastern Lady Eagles in a Southern Ohio Conference volleyball game on Wednesday.
The Lady Vikings beat Coal Grove 25-21, 25-17 and 25-19.
Morgan Jenkins had 15 points including eight aces while Allison Klaiber and Ericca Ross had 10 points each including three aces apiece.
Klaiber also had 11 kills, Payton Hunter added four kills and Ross notched 13 assists.
Defensively, Ross led the way with 16 digs. Hunter had 15, Rachael Hayes 14 and Jenkins 13.
Things turned the opposite way as the Lady Vikings lost 25-18, 25-9 and 25-18 to Eastern.
Klaiber had five points with Kylie Deer getting four points including three aces.
Hunter had four kills, Ellie Johnson three kills and Emily Gorby two blocks.
Ross against led with 13 digs while Hayes and Hunter had eight each.
Symmes Valley visits South Gallia on Thursday.
Redwomen fall to Trojans
PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redwomen let one get away.
Rock Hill pushed the Portsmouth Lady Trojans to the brink only to fall in five sets on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference volleyball game.
Rock Hill fell 25-20, 18-25, 25-21, 8-25 and 12-15 in the tiebreaker.
Sam Stampers had five kills and three serving aces. Autumn Porter also had five kills.
Rock Hill hosts South Point on Thursday in a league game.
