Gary Jenkins
April 8, 1946 — Aug. 16, 2018
Gary L. Jenkins, 72, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at the OSU Medical Center. The Ironton native was born April 8, 1946, to the late Ogle and Grace (McKenzie) Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Leora Sue (Rodgers) Jenkins.
Gary was an iron pourer for the Dayton Malleable Iron Company. He was of the Baptist faith. Anyone who knew Gary knew his love for playing music. Gary loved visits from his friends and family and get-togethers for what we call a little “pickin’ and grinnin.’ He especially loved when his grandchildren visited. He would light up with the biggest smile on his face and say “there’s my kiddies!”
Gary also loved fishing and enjoyed living life with his family, which was everything to him. Papaw Gary is surely entertaining Heaven right now alongside his beloved wife and family members passed. They are all “pickin’ and grinnin’.”
He is survived by a son, Gary (Kiplyn) Jenkins, of Kitts Hill; three daughters, Patty (Shawn) Jones, of Ironton, Dee Dee (Rusty) Delong, of Pedro, and Angel (Lester) Jenkins Schultz, of Ironton; five granddaughters, Sara (Jacob) Brown, of Ironton, Amber Delong, of Pedro, Destiny Schultz, of Ironton, Shayna Schultz, of Ironton, and Aryssa Delong, of Pedro; a brother, Ballard Jenkins; two sisters, Sharon (Paul) Vest and Margie Lucas; and a very special companion, Joyce Belville, who has lovingly been by his side.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Shane Jones; four sisters, Eloise Taylor, Fern Kohlenburg, Jean Bowman and Faye Heaberlin; and three brothers, Ronnie Jenkins, Earl Jenkins and Ogle Jenkins.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, with the Rev. Lonnie Dalton officiating. Online condolences may be made to the Jenkins family by visiting www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
