Prep work on fairground building to begin

The Lawrence County Commission approved a motion to give $10,000 to the Ironton Senior Center at its meeting on Tuesday, with county clerk of courts Mike Patterson providing half.

“The commissioners have a strong and deliberate focus on the senior population in our county,” commissioner DeAnna Holliday said. “We strive to maintain a good, active and fulfilling quality of life for them, and this money will help ensure those standards for this very special group of citizens.”

In addition, commissioner Freddie Hayes Jr. said prep work on the new building at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds, which will include a senior center, community room and EMS station, is set to begin in the coming weeks with surveys prior to breaking ground for construction.

In other action, the commission:

• Received and filed the Dog Warden Report dated July 27, 2018.

• Approved three floodplain permit renewals.

• Approved an amendment for a floodplain permit.

• Approved one appropriation.

• Approved nine appropriations.

• Approved and signed the Change Order for PID 102202 Law CR4-4.47 Landslide Repair Project, as requested by Lawrence County Engineer Patrick Leighty.

• Approved and signed the Lawrence County Subdivision Regulations, which were approved by the Regional Planning Commission.

• Met in executive session with Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Andy Ballard, Carl Bowen and Chris Kline regarding personnel; hire, fire, reprimand. No action was taken.
