Salyers, Dragons get win over Rebels

PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons followed Evan Salyers’ lead.

Behind the strong play of Salyers, the Dragons beat the Tolsia (W.Va.) Rebels 54-49 Tuesday in a non-league game.

“We just played solid,” said Fairland coach Nathan Speed. “Salyers had a nice game. He’s a strong kid who can score inside and rebound.”

Salyers led the Dragons with 24 points. Chad Fisher also played a solid game with 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists while Jonathan Holbrook had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Jacob Copley scored 20 points and Austin Brewer 10 for Tolsia (1-3).

Salyers had half of Fairland’s points in the first quarter and the game was tied 16-16.

Tolsia managed to take a 15-12 lead at the half before Salyers scored eight of Fairland’s 10 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to just 39-38.

Salyers then had eight more points in the fourth quarter and Fairland (3-2) rallied in the fourth quarter to outscore the Rebels 16-10. Fisher was 3 of 4 from the line down the stretch to seal the win.
