Keep the learning going

Yesterday, the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland hosted a performance of “The Addams Family,” which was free and open to the community.
The show was the result of the center’s three weeks of summer arts camps, specifically the two-week production camp that teaches students about all aspects of theater and what goes into a stage show.
Attendees, who ranged in age from five to 16, are given scripts and spend the two weeks auditioning, developing characters and readying for the public show.
Today, at the Highland Museum and Discovery Center in Ashland, there will be a Kids Fest, from noon to five, which will feature magic, wild animal shows and more.
Events like these give children a chance to continue learning and to participate in their community while public schools are out for the summer.
Just because they are not boarding a bus in the morning does not mean that learning for students has to end when school winds down in June.
We encourage all parents and guardians to look around the Tri-State for ways to keep their children’s minds stimulated in these summer months. Take of advantage of the summer and nontraditional learning environments it brings.
There are ample opportunities to explore subjects like science and the arts in these months.
Education does not have to limited to desks and a classroom and the summer provides for many fun options.
