Lou Ann Short

Dec. 30, 1961 — June 14, 2018

Lou Ann Short, 56, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. The Lawrence County native was born Dec. 30, 1961, a daughter of Linda Arthur Meeks, of Ironton, and the late Paul Meeks. She is also survived by her husband, James Short, whom she married Oct. 23, 1999.
Lou Ann was a graduate of Ironton High School and a cashier for Bartram’s Grocery for more than 20 years. She had a great love of music, played the piano and sang beautifully. She attended the Resurrection Hope Methodist Church, where she played the piano. She also played the piano for many weddings and the Ohio University Community Chorus for many years.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Harold and Jean Arthur; and paternal grandparents, Fred and Leila Meeks.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by a son, Thomas (Mary) Slaughter, of Ashland, Kentucky; a daughter, Amanda (Mike Barber) Slaughter, of Ironton; a sister, Paula (James) Dozier, of Columbus; four grandchildren, Tanner Barber, Hunter Barber, Haley Waddle and William Slaughter; and a niece, Jamie Dozier, of Columbus.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Resurrection Hope Methodist Church with pastor Terry Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church.
