Jerry Massie Sr.
Dec. 12, 1940 — May 28, 2018
Jerry Lee “Pappy” Massie Sr., 77, of Pedro, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 28, 2018, at his residence. Mr. Massie was born Dec. 12, 1940, in Fairborn, a son to the late George and Janice Reed Massie. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Russell Massie, whom he married Aug. 4, 1962.
Jerry attended Pedro High School and was a retired contractor for Belville Mining and Multi Service, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a faithful Christian who attended multiple churches. Mr. Massie enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, George Massie, Delbert Massie, Joyce Adkins, Phyllis Smith and Claudia Massie.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Josette (Jeff) Carpenter, of Georgia; three sons, Jerry L. (Kris) Massie Jr., of Ironton, Ronald (Angie) Massie, of Oak Hill, and Donald (April) Massie, of Pedro; two sisters, Judy Spears, of Pedro, and Debra Harbour, of Ironton; brother, Tracy Massie, of Pedro; nine grandchildren, Jason (Bobbi) Massie, of Wheelersburg, Rachel (Stephen) Blagg, of Pedro, Dawson Daniels, of Pedro, Michelle Bendinburg, of Georgia, Logan Carpenter, of Georgia, Brandon (Cortney) Massie, of Kitts Hill, Kayla Massie Rye, of Ironton, Cody Massie, of Tennessee, and Katie Massie, of Texas; great-grandchildren, Aiden Massie, Braxton Massie, Abi, Ali and Ariana Blagg, Lexi and Kinslee Massie, Charlie Geswein and Connor Webb.
Funeral service will be noon Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Dale Henson and Charlie Green officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Furnace Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James Sharp
Dec. 12, 1933 — May 26, 2018
James Ira “Jim” Sharp, 84, of Coal Grove, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Dec. 12, 1933, the son of the late Ira Sharp and Violet Kelley Sharp. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice Matney Sharp, whom he married March 9, 1956.
Jim was a graduate of Pedro High School and a member of Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church in Coal Grove. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and also served in the Navy Reserve. Jim was a retired employee of the Semet-Solvay Coke Plant in Ironton and was also a self-employed truck driver for the Mason Dixon Trucking Company and Matney Trucking Company.
He was a member of the Ironton Masonic Lodge #198 and honorary member of the Waterloo Masonic Lodge #532. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star #404, United Commercial Travelers and the Ironton American Legion. Jim loved to ride motorcycles and was active with the American Legion Riders and Abate of Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Rodney Sharp; two brothers, Harold Sharp and Ronald Lee Sharp; and a sister, Nola May Sharp.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Paul) Jenkins and Christi (Edward) Jenkins, both of Ironton; three sisters, Rosemary (Al) Beair, of Pedro, Judith Miller, of Pedro, and Barbara Osborne, of South Point; six grandchildren, Alesha (Kenny) Napier, of Ironton, Patricia (Jason) Fields, of Ironton, Samantha (Nick) Harder, of Sumter, South Carolina, Robert A. Sharp, of Coal Grove, Jessica (Michael) Sharp, of Ironton, and Andrew (Erica) Jenkins, of Ironton; seven great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Tristan, Jacob, Atley, Quinn, Lilly and Lucy; two step-granddaughters, April Curry and Brandi Jenkins; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at the Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church with pastor Eddie Neel officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by VFW Post 8850. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service today at the church. Phyllis Harper
May 24, 1951 — May 24, 2018
Phyllis Ann Harper, 67, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018, at her residence. The Chicago, Illinois native was born May 24, 1951, a daughter of the late Harry and Irene Shore Wickline.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John D. Harper, whom she married March 5, 1976.
Mrs. Harper was a graduate of Ironton High School and a former employee for Wolohan Lumber, retiring in 1999. She was a homemaker, a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW Post in Ironton, and attended First Baptist Church in Ironton.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Janet (Dan) Hieronimus, of Ironton; a daughter, Joyce (Brian) Caskey, of Ironton; two sons, Bobby (Melanie) Long and Steven (Sarah) Harper, all of Ironton; grandsons, Michael (Kristen) Long, of Kitts Hill, and Chris Long and Brandon) Sarah) Long, all of Ironton; granddaughter, Brittany Russell, of Coal Grove; grandson, Austin Caskey, of Ironton; granddaughter, Katelyn Caskey, of Ironton; and one great-grandson, Carson.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Eric Barnes officiating. Virginia White
June 27, 1950 — May 26, 2018
Virginia Mae White, 67, of Kitts Hill, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Woodview Care and Rehab in Columbus. The Lawrence County native was born June 27, 1950, the daughter of the late William and Naomi Woodyard Spears. She is survived by her husband, Granvil White, whom she married in 1968.
Virginia attended Fairland Schools and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Sheila Miller; and one brother, Roger Dunn, of Warsaw, Indiana.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Leanna Tackett, of Coal Grove, and Leslie White, of Chesapeake; two sons, Wesley White, of Coal Grove, and Granvil White Jr., of Ironton; one brother, Frank Miller, of Deering; one sister, Kathryn Peters, of Galipolis; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Harriet Whitman

Harriet Whitman, 93, of Ironton, died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Crystal Care Nursing Home. She was born Feb. 2, 1925, to the late Edgar and Zella Smith Pratt. She was the widow of Clyde S. Whitman.
She was a retired seamstress from the Cinderella Dress Factory and was of the Baptist faith.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Peter Pratt, Steve Pratt and John Pratt.
She is survived by sons, Phil and Karen Whitman, of Ironton, Mike and Kim Whitman, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Ralph Whitman, of Ironton; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home, Ironton with Brad Jenkins officiating.

Henry Burton Willis Jr., 74, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Mr. Willis was born June 4, 1943. He is survived by his wife, Linda Aldridge Willis.
Mr. Willis was a graduate of South Point High School. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a retired truck driver for McSweeney’s. He enjoyed woodworking, church and spending time with family. Mr. Willis attended Community Tabernacle Church in Coal Grove and House of Praise in Greenup, Kentucky.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Lynn, Leslie Haley and Lori; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
