LLOYD, Ky. — On Friday morning a body was found at the Greenup Locks and Dam in Lloyd, Kentucky, and Ironton police have tentatively identified it as Chadley “Chad” Marshall, who was last seen on the morning of Saturday, May 19.

IPD detectives got a call around 9:30 a.m. from the Greenup County Sheriff’s Office about a body being found at the locks.

“They called us because we were the only department with a missing male,” said IPD Detective Joe Ross.
While news of the body being found made the rounds, no identification was given until a relative of Marshall looked at the body.

“After family members identified several tattoos on the body, we believe that this is the Chadley Marshall that was missing,” Ross said. He added that the body had been in the Ohio River for several days.

“There is no way to say how long he was in the river. But from initial investigation, we don’t believe any foul play is involved. However, that will be left up to the coroner and the autopsy if there was foul play.”

Marshall was last seen at Boomer’s on S. Third Street in Ironton around 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 19.

According to his mother, Kate Marshall, he had been despondent after a separation from his wife and, despite having completed a detox program recently, he had been drinking with a friend before deciding to go out and see a band perform. At the end of the night, he handed off his phone to a friend and walked away. Family and friends had searched for him and started a Facebook page to try to locate him.

Ross said Marshall’s body would be sent to either the Franklin County or Montgomery County coroner for autopsy, but he does not expect any results back for at least eight weeks because of their caseload.

“You are looking at anything from eight to 12 weeks” he said. “Hopefully, there was no foul play involved and there is closure for the family. That is what we strive to do, to give them closure.”
