The young Coal Grove Lady Hornets got in double time Tuesday in a 57-50 double overtime loss to the Raceland Lady Rams.

“It was another fun game to watch if you’re a fan, but very stressful if you’re a coach,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach.

Ashley Adkins scored 16 points and Darrien Hankins had her best game of the season with 15 points to lead the Lady Hornets (2-4). Hope Ratcliff added 12 points.

“(Morgan) Sites is our backup post player and she was on the bench sick,” said Roach. “(Katey) Erwin and Hankins played a lot. Hankins had a real good game scoring and rebounding.”

Taylor Lacks scored 17, Jerra Epling 15 and Haley Abrams 12 for Raceland (2-4).

The Lady Hornets found themselves down 27-18 at the half only to battle back and tie the game at the end of the third quarter at 35-35.

Each team scored six in the fourth quarter and seven in the first overtime.

The difference in the game proved to be Raceland’s clutch foul shooting, especially in overtime. The Lady Rams were 20 of 22 from the line.

“They shot amazing at the free throw line. I give their girls credit for knocking down the clutch shots,” said Roach.
