Must register as Tier 2 sex offender

A Chesapeake man was sentenced to prison Wednesday on a child porn charge in Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Charles Cooper’s courtroom.

Michael C. Irish, 65, of 410 Township Road 1156, Chesapeake, previously pleaded guilty to one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor, a second-degree felony.

According to the indictment, Irish, on or about Sept. 17, 2017, in Lawrence County, did, with knowledge of the character of the material or performance involved, create, reproduce, or publish obscene material that has a minor as one of its participants or portrayed observers.

In exchange for a guilty plea to the charge, eight other identical counts were nolled.

Cooper sentenced him to five years in prison and, in addition, he must register as a Tier 2-sex offender for the next 25 years.

In other cases:

• Jeremy D. Boll, 37, of 369 Township Road 332, Ironton, denied community-controlled sanctions (CCS) violations. Cooper set CCS trial for May 30.

• Kyle A. Davidson, 34, of 13 Township Road 1188, South Point, pleaded not guilty to two counts of trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), both third-degree felonies. Cooper set bond at $25,000 cash or surety and $25,000 OR. Pretrial was set for May 30.

• William Huskey, 36, of 1107 S. Third St., Apt. A, Ironton, denied CCS violations. Cooper set CCS trial for May 30.

• Terry J. Nance, 32, of 308 Washington St., Coal Grove, previously pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking in drugs (Buprenophrine AKA Suboxone), all fourth-degree felonies. Cooper sentenced him to 10 months in prison.

• Charles E. Woodyard, 36, of 178 Township Road 276N, South Point, previously pleaded not guilty to possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. He rejected the state’s final offer of two years in prison, and is facing a maximum of four years behind bars if found guilty at trial.

• Natalye K. Arthur, 19, of 3021 County Road 181, Ironton, previously pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking in drugs (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine AKA Adderall), both felonies of the third-degree. Judge Andy Ballard sentenced her to three years in prison. If she can maintain a clean record in prison, she has the possibility of early release after two years.

• Shannon Belcher, 42, of 204 B Township Road 1403, Apt. 14, South Point, pleaded not guilty to illegal conveyance of prohibited items onto the grounds of a detention facility or institution, a third-degree felony, and possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $30,000 OR. Pretrial was set for May 30.

• Stanley Bennett Jr., 36, of 4198 County Road 12, Proctorville, pleaded not guilty to trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), a fourth-degree felony, and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, also a fourth-degree felony. Ballard continued a $10,000 cash or surety bond from lower court and set a $25,000 OR bond.

• Chanice Berry, age and address unknown, denied CCS violations. Ballard set CCS trial for May 16.

• Walter Bocook, 45, of 532 Rockwood Ave., Chesapeake, pleaded guilty to trafficking in heroin, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard sentenced him to four years CCS under intensive supervised probation (ISP) with 11 months reserved, and ordered him to complete STAR, 200 hours community service and pay court costs.

• Misty Boyer, 35, of 1967 N. Fourth St., Ironton, pleaded not guilty to trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $5,000 cash or surety and $25,000 OR.

• Michael W. Carey, 43, of 1758 ½ N. Second St., Ironton, pleaded not guilty to possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $25,000 OR.

• Carrie Copley, 32, of 3098 County Road 124, Chesapeake, pleaded not guilty to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, a fourth-degree felony, possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony, possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor, and resisting arrest, also a second-degree misdemeanor. Ballard set bond at $75,000 cash or surety and $150,000 OR. Pretrial is set for June 6.

• Deon S. Cunningham, 20, of 936 Monroe Ave., Huntington, West Virginia, pleaded not guilty to trafficking in marijuana, a third-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $5,000 cash or surety and $50,000 OR. Pretrial was set for May 23.

• Eric Lawson, 39, of 605 N. Kenova Road, South Point, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard sentenced him to four years CCS under ISP with 11 months reserved, and ordered him to complete STAR, 200 hours community service and pay $7,000 in restitution.

• Tyrone Markel, 42, of 412 N. Sixth St., Ironton, pleaded not guilty to three counts of trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), all fourth-degree felonies. Ballard set bond at $50,000 cash or surety and $50,000 OR. Pretrial was set for June 6.

• Ronald Maynard, 60, of 714 S. Fourth St., Ironton, pleaded not guilty to possession of drugs (Oxycodone), a third-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $5,000 cash or surety and $25,000 OR. Pretrial was set for May 30.

• Gary Munyan, 48, of 2341 County Road 22, Ironton, admitted CCS violations. Ballard sentenced him to 11 months in prison with credit for 210 days served.

• Derick Nance, 30, of 81 Township Road 1377, South Point, pleaded not guilty to trafficking in heroin and possession of drugs (methamphetamine), both fifth-degree felonies. Ballard set bond at $2,500 cash or surety and $25,000 OR. Pretrial was set for June 6.

• Brian Samples, 28, of 1002 ½ 13th St., Huntington, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony. Ballard sentenced him to four years CCS under ISP with 17 months reserved. A gun was also forfeited in the case.

• Garland K. Sharp, 28, of 2689 County Road 181, Ironton, previously pleaded guilty to burglary, a fourth-degree felony. Ballard sentenced him to 17 months in prison with credit for time served, and ordered him to pay court costs and a $1,000 fine.

• Shirley Turvey, 34, of 812 County Road 27, Pedro, was found guilty of probation violations. Ballard sentenced her to four years CCS under ISP with 11 months reserved, and ordered her to complete STAR and 200 hours community service.
