16th year for NWTF fishing event
PEDRO — The Lawrence County Commission took its meeting to Lake Vesuvius at the Wayne National Forest on Thursday in order to be able to meet during the Wheelin’ Sportsmen fishing event, put on by the South Hills Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Wayne National Forest, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and City Bank.
This was the 16th year of the event at Lake Vesuvius, which South Hills Longbeards Chapter President Larry Pernestti said provides a great opportunity for those with ability restrictions.
“This provides a great opportunity for folks who normally wouldn’t have the opportunity to do something like this or get outdoors and experience something out of their normal routines,” he said.
Around 200 participants took part in the day, where the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife previously released thousands of rainbow trout into the lake. Numerous volunteers also served hot dogs, chips and beverages during the event.
The commission declared Thursday, April 19, 2018, “Wheelin’ Sportsmen Day” in Lawrence County.
In other action, the commission:
• Approved one floodplain permit renewal.
• Received and filed the dog warden report dated March 31, 2018.
• Approved and signed the Marine Patrol Assistance Grant for the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office
• Proclaimed Friday, April 20, 2018, as “Amateur Radio Day” in Lawrence County.
• Approved two transfer funds.
