Office has repaired 1,208 holes on roadways

At this week’s Lawrence County Commission meeting, county engineer Patrick Leighty said his office has been working hard recently on repairing roads throughout the county that became damaged from the winter weather.

Leighty said his crew has looked at more than 30,000 miles of road and has repaired 1,208 holes, most of which contain temporary cold mix asphalt which will have to be repaired again later on when the weather gets warmer.

“The roads became really degraded from the winter,” he said. “But we’re out there trying to fix everything that we can.”

Leighty said that if anyone knows of any areas that may need work, call the county engineer garage at 740-533-4317 during business hours.

The commission took the following action:

• Approved two floodplain permit renewals.

• Received and filed the Dog Warden Report dated Jan. 20, 2018.

• Approved and signed the Construction Change Order for PID 102206 Law CR 0.17 for final adjustments in quantities, as requested by Lawrence County Engineer Patrick Leighty.

• Approved and signed the Operator of Record Notification Form for the Union Rome Sewer.

• Approved and signed the FY 2018/19 Community Based Corrections Program Subsidy Grant Agreement Addendum, requested by Lynne Stewart, ISP Project Director.

• Approved the elevation and promotion of David Hamm from part-time paramedic to full-time paramedic station supervisor, as requested by the Lawrence County EMS administrators.

• Approved changes to the Corrections Planning Board as follows: Rich Blankenship, Ironton City vice mayor, and Chris Delawder, Lawrence County defense attorney.

• Met in executive session with the three Lawrence County EMS administrators and Chris Kline, county chief deputy auditor, regarding personnel; hire, fire, reprimand. No action was taken.
