Numerous cases were heard this week in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

• Betty S. Albert, 41, of 615 S. 10th St., Ironton, pleaded not guilty to trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), a fourth-degree felony, and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), a felony of the fifth-degree. Judge Andy Ballard set bond at $15,000 OR and $2,500 cash or surety. Pretrial was set for Feb. 21.

• Michael Barney, 55, of 440 Third Ave., Worthington, Kentucky, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs (Oxycodone), a fifth-degree felony. As part of the plea deal, the state agreed to nolle two counts of fourth-degree trafficking in drugs. Ballard sentenced him to four years community-controlled sanctions (CCS) under intensive supervised probation (ISP) with 11 months reserved. He was also sentenced to 47 days in jail, with credit for all of those days served.

• Joseph Cunningham, 39, of 809 Sixth St. E., Huntington, West Virginia, admitted CCS violations. Ballard sentenced him to 90 days in jail. His CCS will terminate at the completion of the sentence.

• Chaz Estep, 27, of 548 Township Road 109, South Point, admitted CCS violations. Ballard sentenced him to 11 months in prison with credit for time served. He may also face up to three years post release control when he gets out of prison. His CCS will terminate at the completion of the sentence.

• Samuel D. Frye II, 39, of 668 Buffalo Creek Road, Huntington, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to theft, a fifth-degree felony. He was eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction, and Ballard ordered him to complete STAR, 200 hours community service and abstain from drugs or alcohol for at least one year. He will remain in jail until a bed opens at STAR in March.

• Ashley Gardner, 33, of 1539 County Road 21, Ironton, pleaded not guilty to two counts of trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine, Alprazolam), one third-degree and one fifth-degree felony, two counts of possession of drugs (methamphetamine), both third-degree felonies, tampering with evidence, a third-degre felony, possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony, and illegal conveyance of prohibited items onto the grounds of a detention facility or institution, a felony of the third-degree. Ballard set bond at $50,000 OR and set pretrial for Feb. 21.

• Tina Hanshaw, age and address unknown, admitted CCS violations. Ballard sentenced her to 193 days in jail with credit for 193 days served, allowing her to be released. Her CCS was also terminated.

• Richard Heaberlin, 48, of 615 S. 10th St., Ironton, pleaded not guilty to trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), a fourth-degree felony, and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $25,000 OR, $5,000 cash or surety and ordered him to be placed on GPS monitoring. Pretrial was set for Feb. 14.

• David Hess, 22, of 38 Township Road, Chesapeake, pleaded guilty to three counts of forgery, all fifth-degree felonies. In a separate case, he pleaded guilty to theft by deception, also a felony of the fifth-degree. He also admitted CCS violations in a third case. Ballard set sentencing in all cases for Feb. 21, and set a $50,000 OR bond and ordered him to be placed on GPS monitoring.

• Andrea M. Ross, 29, address unknown, admitted CCS violations. Ballard sentenced her to 14 days in jail, considering that she has already served at least a month of time.

• Joshua Scott, 30, of 200 Township Road 346, South Point, admitted CCS violations. Ballard sentenced him to 60 days in jail with credit for 19 days served. His CCS will be terminated at the completion of his sentence.

• Donald L. Sisler Jr., 28, of 2163 County Road 22, Ironton, pleaded not guilty to possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $50,000 OR, continued a $10,000 cash or surety bond from lower court, and $75,000 property. Pretrial was set for Feb. 7.

• Paul L. Walker, 49, of 20 Township Road 1039, Chesapeake, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs (heroin), a fifth-degree felony. He was eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction, and Ballard ordered him to complete treatment at a local treatment facility pending his assessment by the county bureau of community corrections. He also ordered him to abstain from drugs and alcohol for at least one year. If he successfully completes treatment, the charge will be dismissed.

• Kimberly K. Cochran, 28, of 619 Cliff St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking in heroin, all fourth-degree felonies. In another case, she pleaded guilty to trafficking in drugs (heroin), also a felony of the fourth-degree. Judge Charles Cooper sentenced her to two years in prison.

• Jerry D. Kitchen, 39, of 14537 State Route 93, Pedro, previously pleaded not guilty to illegal manufacturing of drugs (methamphetamine), a second-degree felony. He rejected the state’s final offer of four years in prison, and Cooper set trial for Feb. 15. He is facing a maximum of eight years in prison if found guilty at trial.

• Cabell Patmon, 50, of 414 Vine St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to theft, a fifth-degree felony. Cooper sentenced him to nine months in prison.

• Kevin B. Pennington, 28, of 756 County Road 7A, Ironton, pleaded guilty to trafficking in drugs (morphine), a fourth-degree felony. Cooper sentenced himto 10 months in prison.

• Clifford P. Stiles, 48, of 2965 Gephart Road, Wheelersburg, pleaded guilty to assault on a peace officer, a felony of the fourth-degree. Cooper sentenced him to six months in prison.
