SCIOTOVILLE — Jensyn Shepherd provided the only real suspense.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were a heavy favorite to beat the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans on Thursday. The Lady Vikings did just that with an easy 56-23 Southern Ohio Conference win.
But it was the 6-foot senior center Shepherd who provided the suspense as she scored 22 points that allowed her to reach the 1,000-career points milestone.
Shepherd had a big game overall with 12 rebounds, six steals and four assists as the Lady Vikings improved to 8-6 overall and 5-5 in the SOC.
Rachael Hayes added 11 points. Kaitlyn Crabtree had 10 rebounds, nine steals, first assists and three blocks. Taylor Sells also had 12 rebounds as the Lady Vikings had 47 as a team.
Grace Smith scored 14 for East.
Shepherd had eight points and Crabtree scored all six of her points as the Lady Vikings took a commanding 18-2 lead.
Symmes Valley extended its lead to 36-7 at the half as Hayes hit a pair 3-pointers and Shepherd scored six.
The Lady Vikings were up 45-17 after three quarters and outscored East 11-6 in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Vikings visit Pt. Pleasant, W.Va., on Saturday and Chesapeake on Wednesday.
