Trojans fight off Panthers’ comeback

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Trojans held off the Chesapeake Panthers 68-63 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Portsmouth (7-2, 2-1) had built a 15-point lead after three quarters but had to withstand a furious Chesapeake rally in the fourth quarter.
The Trojans led just 21-20 after the first quarter but opened up a 40-29 lead at the half.
Portsmouth stretched its lead to 60-45 after three quarters before Chesapeake (3-5, 1-2) outscored the Trojans 18-8in the fourth quarter.
Eli Archer scored 23 points to lead the Chesapeake offense. Cole Mills hit four 3-pointers and scored 19 points while Austin Jackson added 11 points.
Daniel Jordan scored a game-high 29 points to pace the Trojans. Isaac Kelly scored 15 points and Matthew Fraulini added 10.
Chesapeake played at Russell, Ky., on Saturday and hosts Ironton on Tuesday. Portsmouth entertains Fairland on Tuesday.
