OAK HILL — The first half was fruitful. The second half the famine set in.

The Symmes Valley Vikings saw a 4-point halftime lead disappear as the Oak Hill Oaks rallied for a 60-40 win Friday in the season opener for both teams.

“It just dried up on us,” said Vikings’ coach Jerome Fuller.

“We couldn’t get a rebound in the second half and turnovers hurt us. With Oak Hill, you don’t get a lot of possessions so turnovers and no second chance shots really hurt you.”

The Vikings trailed 15-13 at the end of the first quarter but came back to go up 27-23 at the break despite starters Luke Taylor and D.J. Miller sitting out due to foul trouble.

Oak Hill then came out the second half and outscored the Vikings 19-9 to go up 42-36.

The Vikings were down 10 late in the fourth quarter and were forced to foul allowing the Oaks to pull away with their foul shooting.

Taylor had 12 points and Miller 10 points and four steals to pace the Vikings.

Austin Brown scored 25 points and Drew Cannon 17 to pace the Oaks.
