Judith Potter

She fought the good fight, she kept the faith, and on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, Judith F. Potter, 66, of Oak Hill, finished the race and found comfort in the arms of Jesus, whom she loved and served.
Judy was married to Elwin Potter for 47 years, and in addition to Elwin, she is survived by their three children, Sherri Metzger, of Ironton, Kelli (Bo) Kurtovic, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Jason (Ashley) Potter, of Oak Hill. She is also survived by their four grandchildren, Kylee Metzger, Adriana and Mariah Kurtovic, and Rylie Hughes; sisters, Verna Mae Rowland, Ruth Diana Truman and Rita Jane (Tim) Silvey; brothers, Robert Frederick (Sharon) Miller and Ralph Daniel (Marilyn) Miller, as well as her father, Leslie Miller.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dora Bernice Miler; stepmother, Opal Miller; and her parents-in-law, Jimmie and Martha Potter. In addition, she was loved very much by her many sisters and brothers-in-law; and her church family.
Judy was a 1969 graduate of Jackson High School, and later graduated from the University of Rio Grande, where she also worked for many years. She retired from Buckeye Hills Career Center, and spent her free time with her family and tending to her flower gardens. She was a member of the Jackson Church of Christ and attended Gallipolis Central Christian Church.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Lewis Gillum Funeral Home, Oak Hill. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Minister Derek Stump officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Gallipolis Road, Oak Hill. In lieu of flowers, Judy requested that donations be made to the Growing Oaks Food Program, which provides food to more than 300 students on a monthly basis. Larry Vencill

March 26, 1944 — Dec. 13, 2017

Larry E. Vencill, 73, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, after an extended illness, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. The Lawrence County native was born March 26, 1944, a son of the late Robert and Helen Washburn Vencill.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Church Vencill.
Larry was a graduate of Ironton High School. He was a retired factory worker and long term resident of California. He attended the New Heights Church in Huntington and enjoyed cooking, baking for others, watching old game shows, playing bingo and card games with his friends in his apartment building.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sisters, Judy Mechlowitz, of Toledo, Jennifer Cox, of South Point, and Katherine Norman, of Ironton; and two brothers, Don Vencill, of Kentucky, and Gary Vencill, of South Point.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Vencill, who passed as a young child.

Grace Elise Keeton Chapman, 68, of Milton, West Virginia, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at home.

Freda Faye Carpenter, 86, of Coal Grove, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at a local nursing home.
