Defendants plead guilty in common pleas court

This week’s Lawrence County Common Pleas Court docket saw numerous defendants plead guilty to their charges.

• Corwin Kahassai, 25, of 1215 S. Ohio Ave., Columbus, pleaded guilty to improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, trafficking in drugs (cocaine), a fifth-degree felony, possession of cocaine, also a felony of the fifth-degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Judge Andy Ballard sentenced him to four years community-controlled sanctions (CCS) under intensive supervised probation (ISP) with 11 months prison reserved, and ordered him to complete STAR and 200 hours community service. A handgun was also forfeited in the case.

• Julius Murphy, 28, of 711 Washington St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to trafficking in drugs (Oxycodone), a fourth-degree felony, and two counts of trafficking in heroin, one fifth-degree and one fourth-degree felony. Ballard sentenced him to four years CCS under ISP with 36 months prison reserved, and ordered him to complete STAR and 200 hours community service.

• Stephanie Ward, 25, of 2001 Liberty Ave., Ironton, pleaded guilty to burglary, a second-degree felony, breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, and illegal conveyance of prohibited items onto the grounds of a detention facility or institution, a felony of the third-degree. Ballard sentenced her to 30 months in prison with the eligibility to be released after one year.

• Samuel D. Browning, 32, of 153 W. High St., Apt. 1, Circleville, admitted CCS violations. Judge Charles Cooper sentenced him to seven months in prison.

• Amber Craft, 31, of Country Hearth Hotel, Room 235, South Point, pleaded guilty to failure to appear, a felony of the fourth-degree. She also admitted CCS violations in a separate case. Cooper sentenced her to six months in prison for each, for a total of one year in prison.

• Franklin D. Kegley, 39, of 2635 Lincoln Ave., Ashland, Kentucky, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony. As part of the plea deal, a fifth-degree possession of drugs charge for methadone and a fifth-degree possession of heroin charge were nolled. Cooper sentenced him to seven months in prison.

• Jeremy Mays, 29, of 446 Township Road 332, Ironton, pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking in drugs (Oxycodone), two fourth-degree felonies and one third-degree felony. Cooper set sentencing for Dec. 27.

• Jackie Lee Miller, 56, of 618 N. Sixth St., Ironton, admitted CCS violations. Cooper sentenced him to six months in prison.

• William L. Waddell III, 26, of 1210 McGovney St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony. Cooper sentenced him to four years CCS under ISP with 11 months prison reserved, and ordered him to complete STAR. He also tested positive on a drug screening, and will remain in jail until a bed at STAR opens.
