Dula Hughes

Aug. 23, 1924 — Dec. 4, 2017

Dula Mae Forward Hughes, 93, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, in Southern Ohio Medical Center, Portsmouth. Mrs. Hughes was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Goddard, Kansas, a daughter to the late Glenn and Anna (Helfrich) Forward. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James F. Hughes.
Mrs. Hughes was a graduate of the Hugoton, Kansas school system. She was a former retail clerk and a homemaker. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Haverhill United Methodist Church, Haverhill.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Janice Hughes Gallion; son, Randy Hughes; two sisters, Maxine Forward Phillips and JoAnn Forward Sessler; and grandson-in-law, Chuck Wiggins.
She is survived by son, James L. Hughes (Claudia), of Citrus Heights, California; daughter, Mila J. Hughes Kidwell (John), of Hazard, Kentucky; son-in-law, David Gallion, of Otway; two sisters, Mildred Forward Moser and Jean Forward Coulter, of Hugoton, Kansas; two brothers, Charles Forward (Evalean) Hugoton, of Kansas, and Wayne Forward (Mary Ann), of Hugoton, Kansas; six grandchildren, Andrea Dawn Gallion Wiggins Collins (Marcel), of Beaufort, South Carolina, Krista Gallion Gohmann (Fred), of Portsmouth, Jennifer Hughes Abbott (Doug), of Alamo, California, Michael Hughes (Rebecca), of Stockton, California, Jami Kidwell Chavez (Nik), of Winchester, Kentucky, and Timothy Kidwell (Rebecca), of Lexington, Kentucky; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Haverhill, with pastor Bob Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in Haverhill Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Hughes, Alex Hughes, Brandon, Hughes, Brian Hughes, Justin Deerfield and Bob Deerfield and Honorary Pallbearers will be Travis Deerfield, Bill Hughes and Jeremy Hughes. To offer the Hughes family online condolences, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net

Vada Jenkins

Vada May Jenkins, 48, of Ironton, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. today in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Chapel, Ironton. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service today at the funeral chapel. Cathie Harris, 50, of Proctorville, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at Best Care Nursing Home, Wheelersburg.

Charles Roger Abbott, 69, of Ironton, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky.

Owen Dale Jack Stormes Jr., 40, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Nicole B. Steele Stormes. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.
