Griswold Christmas light challenge begins Dec. 1

SOUTH POINT — People for the Point has announced a holiday decorating contest for those in the 45680 zip code.

Chris Smith, of the group, said judging for the 2017 Griswold Challenge Christmas Light and Decoration contest, named for the extravagant light display by the family in the film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” will begin Dec. 1 and run through Dec. 20.

“Let’s get ready to spread Christmas cheer and light up the 45680 zip code,” Smith said. “This year, we will be having five judged categories in the competition, with champion banners and prize packs being awarded for all categories,” Smith said.

Categories include Griswold Champion (for which Smith said “no explanation” is needed), traditional and old school decorations, business, religious and “Love thy Neighbor,” for a minimum of two neighbors working together and decorating multiple houses.

To be eligible, participants must have a 45680 zip code.

Prizes will be awarded the final day of judging.
