Possible human remains were discovered around 1:50 p.m. Saturday on Wayne National Forest land off of County Road 5 in Aid Township, according to a post by Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page.
“Deputies and Detectives met with the complainant, a hunter who advised that while hunting on federal forestry land, he found a human skull,” the post states. “Deputies were taken several hundred yards into the woods to the area and collected this skull. A search of the area was conducted, and another bone believed to be human was also found in the area.”
Lawless added that the investigation is ongoing, and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office, will provide the bones to experts, who will then possibly be able to match the dental records and DNA in order to determine who they belong to.
Updates will become available as we receive them.
