Real Life Ministries and Ironton area-based Christian band Genuine Remedy present “The Breakthrough: Breaking the Cycle of Addiction One Person at a Time,” a recovery concert that will feature three acts, from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Ro-Na Theater.
Besides Genuine Remedy, the other two acts include Anthony Wall, youth pastor of LifeSong Church in Russell, Kentucky, and 828, a youth band from Flatwoods, Kentucky.
The event is free and open to the public, thanks to its many sponsors and volunteers.
Ironton Mayor Katrina Keith will serve as the MC for the event, and Andrew Grubb, of CityReach Church, will be the speaker.
“The Tri-State area is a battlefield of drugs and addiction. Drugs have flooded the streets and our lives, and everyone is affected one way or another,” Rick Sturgill, pastor of Real Life Ministries, said. “Real Life Ministries and Genuine Remedy have come together to create Breakthrough 2017. This vision is to bring all people affected by drugs, alcohol, hurts, habits, hang-ups or addiction to one venue for a night of music, testimonials and worship. It’s time to fight back and to know there is a way to battle all the hurt and struggles that come from addiction.
Scott Raney, member of Genuine Remedy, said that he has overcome addiction, and events like this are extremely important.
“I am actually living proof that people can recover from drugs and alcohol,” he said. “With six and a half years clean, I am driven to live in the solution and offer my experience to those who want to get better and find a new way of life. I live by the old saying that ‘you can’t change your past, but you can change your path.’”
The event will also offer free food and door prizes. The Ro-Na Theater is located at 312 S. Third St. in Ironton.
