The Ohio State Highway Patrol and local businesses have teamed up for the annual Lawrence County Cram the Cruiser Food Drive.

The campaign is an effort to collect canned foods and non-perishable foods to be donated to local food pantries for Christmas. Items will be collected until Dec. 15

“After the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, a lot of food pantries will be running low,” said OSHP Sgt. Chris Smith. “And the goal of the Cram the Cruiser campaign is to ensure food pantries have an abundance of food to distribute shortly before Christmas and following the holidays during the winter months.”

The program is in need of the following items; peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna fish, dry pasta, canned soup and macaroni and cheese.

This year, the Highway Patrol has teamed up with Glockner South Point Ford and Glockner Chevrolet of Ironton, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, Robin Fowler State Farm of South Point, Slack and Wallace Funeral of South Point, WKEE/WTCR iHeartRadio, Armstrong Cable and People for the Point Inc. Anyone wishing to make donations can drop off goods at the OSHP office in South Point or at any of the partner businesses.

On Dec. 15, all the items will be collected and the distributed to Lawrence County food pantries by volunteers.
