Outstanding qualifications for municipal judge job

Published 4:10 pm Sunday, November 5, 2017

Soon, the people of Ironton must choose a new Municipal Judge. This is not only an important civic responsibility for voters, but a great opportunity to choose a judicial candidate who can bring change and new ideas to the job. That candidate is lawyer Mark McCown.

He possesses the very best legal qualifications, is a gentleman of the highest character, and is exactly the kind of legal expert that any city should be proud to have as judge.

How do I know this? Because I am an international lawyer with a global corporation, a former law professor, and – most importantly – a native son of Ironton who graduated from Ironton High School with the class of ’90. As a lawfully registered absentee voter, I have already checked my postal ballot for Mark.

During my time as an international lawyer and law professor, I have learned what makes a good lawyer and a good judge. Mark is a graduate of Georgetown Law School, one of our country’s best. With these qualifications, he could have followed a legal career that took him to the big cities, exotic foreign places, or even the halls of power in Washington D.C. itself. But Mark is an Irontonian first and foremost, so he brought his legal skills home to his community, where he has practiced as a successful attorney for 20 years. If you elect Mark as the next municipal judge, you will choose not only a dedicated public servant, but a top legal mind. I have met lawyers and judges from around the world, but if I needed a lawyer today, I would still call Mark.

By electing Mark, you will also choose a man of the best integrity. I know this, too, because I have been close friends with him for 30 years. We even attended Ohio’s Miami University together, sharing a dorm room our freshman year. I have seen how his love for community begins with his dedication to family and his loyalty to friends. His honesty and sincerity are refreshing in a world where old-fashioned values are in short supply. I trust Mark completely. As voters, you can, too.

For these reasons, Mark is an outstanding judicial candidate. His community service record is exceptional. With first-class legal abilities, he will bring refreshing, innovative new ideas about how to administer justice in the face of difficult social challenges. And finally, Mark is an honest man, whom you can rely upon to do the right thing. This is a rare, special opportunity for Ironton to choose a top-grade lawyer with good, small-town values. So, I hope you will elect Mark to be Ironton’s next municipal judge.

Wherever I go in the world, it will be nice to know that justice in my hometown is in the best of hands.
