Lady Dragons’ defense keys win over Westfall

The Fairland Lady Dragons used a strong defensive effort to shut down the Westfall Mustangs and post a season opening 38-19 win Friday in the Paint Valley Shootout.

“We’ve been playing really good defense all preseason. We played pretty solid today,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

Katie Fuller scored 15 points to lead Fairland and was named her team’s Player of the Game. Tori Garrett added 8 points and Kayla Swiger 6.

Westfall led 8-5 at the end of the first quarter but Fairland rallied to lead 18-11 at the break.

Fuller scored 8 points in the third quarter as the Lady Dragons blitzed Westfall 15-2 and led 33-13.

The Lady Dragons play at Ironton on Thursday.
