Karen Thayer

Karen Thayer, of Gallipolis, passed away from her earthly life into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Aug. 24 at home with her family, after a 30-year battle with breast cancer.
Karen had a brightness inside her that she shared with others through her beautiful smile, her caring nature and unflappable ability to always remain positive about life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Avanell Giles; brothers-in-law, Donald Thayer, Keith Thayer and Rich Pierson.
Karen is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jim Thayer; daughters, Kim (Chris) Smith, of Scottown, Jana (Jason) Flynn, of Proctorville, and Teal Thayer, of Kernnersville, North Carolina; and three grandchildren, Thayer, Conner, and Maddi Flynn, of Proctorville. Also surviving is a brother, Michael (Essie) Giles, of Willow Wood; sister, Brenda (Buddy) Harrison, of Gallipolis; brothers-in law, Jack (Janet) Thayer, of Erie, Pennsylvania, Gary (Rose) Thayer, of Erie, and Mike (Chris) Thayer, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; sisters-in law, Barbara (Fred) Kerin, of Erie, Wendy (Greg) Keen, of Erie, and Janie Thayer, of Mt. Olivet, Kentucky; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Karen is also survived by very special friends, Bev (Perk) Jeffers, of Eureka, and Karen’s second mom and sisters, Audry Angel, Judy Angel and Joy Angel, as well as her baby dachschund, Chole.
The family extends a very special thank you to Dr. Hamid and the entire staff at Holzer Cancer Center for their devotion and expert care. Karen loved them all.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, with Pastor Kandy Nuce officiating. Burial will follow in the Perkins Ridge Cemetery in Scottown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 6-8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Tom Schlecht, Brad Schlecht, Cory Harrison, Mike Waugh, Harlan Fisher, Thayer Flynn, Conner Flynn and Chris Smith.

Vera Rose
March 20, 1933 — Aug. 24, 2017
Vera Ernestine Rose, 84, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at 3:35 a.m. at Worthington Christian Village.
She was born March 20, 1933 to the late Homer L. and Mary (Cheatwood) Justice in Wilgus, Ohio in Lawrence County. Vera graduated in 1951 from Waterloo High School, where she played basketball. After numerous years of dedicated service, Vera retired from the Columbus Public Schools where she worked in food service management.
She is survived by loving children, Tom (Rhonda) Rose and Vicki McGuire; grandchildren, Loretta, Marlene, Elizabeth and Nathan; four great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Justice; sister, Wanda Dennison; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, James E. Rose; siblings, Jewel, Lois and Homer Jr.; granddaughter, Mary, and special niece, Sarah Rose.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Wednesday at Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Road, where family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park.
