Church-sponsored event expecting large turnout

Area school-aged children and their parents need to mark their calendars for Saturday, Aug. 5 for the 13th annual St. Paul Lutheran Church Tools 4 School event and First United Methodist Church sponsored Summerfest.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with Tools 4 School giving away backpacks filled with school supplies for children in grades K-12, and Summerfest offering inflatables, balloon art, face painting, music and more. In addition, Harvest for the Hungry will be on hand providing hot dogs and bottled water.

Also part of the activities will be Ambiance Salon, of Ashland, Kentucy, giving free haircuts to school children, as well as personal hygiene supplies, First Church of the Nazarene making snow-cones and having games for the children, and Christ Episcopal Church giving away socks. Teas and Treats will also provide princesses for the children’s enjoyment, and several informational booths, including King’s Daughters Medical Center, the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization, Two-Hearts Pregnancy Center, REACH, Ohio University Southern and First American Loan.

The event continues to grow each year thanks to numerous school supply and monetary donations from several area churches and individuals, which bring the community together for the good of the area’s youngest and most vulnerable citizens.

If you have a school-aged child going into K-12th grade, you’re welcome to attend the event, which will be outside of St. Paul Lutheran Church along Center Street between Fifth and Sixth streets in Ironton.

Activities begin at 10 a.m. with the singing of the National Anthem and a prayer by the Rev. Don Woolum.
