Samuel Ford

Aug. 18, 1920 — July 22, 2017

Samuel Franklin Ford, 96, of Ironton, went to be with Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, Kentucky. Mr. Ford was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Willona, Kentucky, a son to the late Coss Ford Sr. and Serena Bridges Ford.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie O. Thomas Ford, who passed away Aug. 8, 2009.
Mr. Ford retired from Dayton Malleable Iron Company as an iron worker, and was also a local businessman, operating a janitorial service. He was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Ironton, where he served as a trustee.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two baby daughters, Eva Marie and Mary Ford; four sisters, Mildred Martin, Mattie Brooks, Rebecca Ford and Emma Lucy Gude; and five brothers, Edward, Coss, Charles, Allen and Herman Ford.
He is survived by three daughters, Gloria Ford Saunders, of Ironton, Martha (Eugene “Bubby”) Quarles, of Macomb Township, Michigan, and Jacqueline Samuel Ford, of Columbus; very special foster son, Bob (Venus) Barkley; brother, Robert Ford, of Cadiz, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Michele Daniels, Hawanya Quarles and Gary (Suzanne) Saunders Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Ciavon, Gary Jr. II, Daveonta, Gabriel, Lonnie, Blake and Brooke; great-great-granddaughter, Kaiesha; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be noon Monday at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Ironton, with the Rev. Melvin Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. The Ford family request donations be made in Sam’s name to Mt. Gary Adkins

Oct. 14, 1957 — July 27, 2017

Gary Lee Adkins, 59, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Oct. 14, 1957, a son of the late William R. and Eva M. McGlone Adkins.
Mr. Adkins attended Kingsbury Elementary and Ironton High School. He loved to fish and hunt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Katherine Skaggs, Betty Imes, Mary Hay, Annabelle Hensley, Dorothy Adkins and Lucille Bailey; and two brothers, Charles Adkins and William “Ray” Adkins.
He is survived by two daughters, Lisa M. Adkins and Danielle R. Adkins, both of Ironton; two sisters, Wanda J. Adkins, of Ironton, and Ruth E. Adkins, of Coal Grove; a granddaughter, Nyla A. Pettiford, of Ironton; and a nephew, Keith Adkins, of Ironton.
Funeral services will be noon Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Richard Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Minnie Wentz

Minnie Louelle Booth Wentz, 85, of Proctorville, died Thursday, July 27, 2017, at home. She is survived by her husband, Charles Chuck C. Wentz. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, West Virginia. Entombment will follow.
