Event makes fishing accessible to special needs children
CHESAPEAKE — An event on Saturday aimed to make it easier for those with special needs to enjoy one of the staples of summer.
More than 150 people, including children and their families, attended a Special Needs Youth Sportsmen fishing event in Chesapeake, allowing them to enjoy family fun in the outdoors.
The annual event was organized by the group, led by George McCalvin, and drew a large crowd, who met up early in South Point to travel by caravan to the fishing site at a private farm near Chesapeake.
The festivities, which ran through noon, were free of charge, open to all who showed up and breakfast and lunch were provided.
