Honor heroes this weekend

As one of the largest annual holiday weekends in Lawrence County approaches, there will be a chance to put our patriotism on full display, with several events scheduled starting Thursday and continuing throughout the weekend.

Each of these events has one common goal, and that is to afford all residents the ability to say “thank you” to those men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice and to those who continue to serve our country.

Below is a list of events that we hope all Lawrence County residents make plans to attend.

• Navy Night- Thursday 6 p.m.

• Flags of Honor Ceremony- Friday 6 p.m.

• Woodland Cemetery Service- Sunday 2 p.m.

• 149th annual Ironton-Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade – Monday 10 a.m.

Ultimately, this is a special weekend for Lawrence County, and it is not just about the floats or barbeques, but remembering and showing respect for each of our brave soldiers who have fought, or currently fight, to protect those freedoms we hold so dear.

This isn’t a weekend of politics or banter, but a weekend we come together as one, as Americans, to show the honor that is truly deserved to these heroes.
