PORTSMOUTH — It was just too much C.J. Corns.
The Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans’ hard-throwing pitcher fired a three-hitter in a 6-0 Southern Oho Conference win over the Symmes Valley Vikings on Monday.
Corns struck out 14 and walked just one in going the distance.
The Vikings used three pitchers who combined to walk 13 batters.
“You have to put the ball in play to have a chance at scoring runs and from a pitching standpoint you can’t walk that many batters,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.
Symmes Valley (6-8) had just three hits. Payton Hayes was 1-3 with a double while Nick Klaiber and Derek Brace each went 1-3.
Notre Dame managed only five hits. Tyler Speas was 2-2 while Sam Kayser was 1-2 and Drew Cassidy and Corns were 1-3.
