Lawrence County Sheriff Jeffery Lawless confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that a second arrest has been made in the Adkins death in Chesapeake.
“We arrested a juvenile yesterday in connection with this case,” he said. “She was charged with delinquency by tampering with evidence. She was arraigned in Judge (David) Payne’s juvenile court earlier today.”
The adult in the case, Tina Adkins, 42, was arrested on Friday, March 31, when police served a warrant on her Chesapeake residence and found the body of her husband, 48-year-old David Adkins, in a refrigerator in the basement.
The warrant was issued when an informant came forward on the evening of Thursday, March 30, to tell police that they believed Tina had harmed David and that his body was inside the residence.
Police had performed a wellness check earlier that day after David Adkins’ family filed a missing persons report, but had no probable cause to enter the home at that time.
Although an official autopsy report has not yet been released, Lawless said that several deputies observed the autopsy in Montgomery County and that he could confirm Adkins had been stabbed several times in the chest, neck, and back.
Lawless also said that Tina Adkins will appear before the judge for a pretrial hearing at 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning, in Lawrence Municipal Court.
Adkins, who admitted to detectives that she killed David, was charged with murder in the first degree and is currently being held in the Lawrence County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.
