Webb’s 17Ks lead Lady Panthers to win

CHESAPEAKE — Brooke Webb wasn’t unhittable, but it was close.
Webb struck out 17 batters and drove in four runs to lead the Chesapeake Lady Panthers to a 9-0 shutout of the Huntington St. Joseph Lady Fighting Irish. on Thursday.
“We played pretty well and Brooke was throwing the ball really well. She had 17 strikeouts but she only walked one batter so she was throwing strikes,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
Webb went 3-for-4 as Chesapeake had 11 hits. Katy Spears also went 3-4 and Ryleigh Swann was 2-4 with a triple.
Chesapeake went up 2-0 in the first inning.
Swann walked, Spears singled and Webb tripled them home.
The Lady Panthers went up 5-0 in the third when Swann tripled, Spears had an RBI double, Webb singled her home and Brianna Russell had a run-scoring double.
Chesapeake got a run in the fourth when Swann reached on an error and Spears and Webb singled.
The Lady Panthers capped the scoring with three in the sixth.
Swann single to start the rally, Spears reached on a fielder’s choice, Webb was safe on an error to load the bases and Ashley Tackett had a two-run single. Jenny Mills singled in the final run to cap the uprising.
Chesapeake hosts Rock Hill on Monday.
