FRANKLIN FURNACE — Once they got control, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers didn’t let go.
Chesapeake took control of the game in the second quarter and went on to beat the Green Lady Bobcats 52-29 Monday.
“We started out slow and they controlled the tempo for a quarter and half. We had a tough game on Saturday and we didn’t have much time to prepare,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.
Leading just 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, Sarah Mayo and Kimmie Bennett had 5 points each in the second quarter as Chesapeake outscored Green 20-7 to take a 27-13 halftime lead.
“In the second quarter we took over,” said Ball. “Mayo and Ruffner and Bennett all three stepped up offensive and Kristen Webb also had a good game for us.”
Amanda Ruffner scored 8 points in the third quarter as the Lady Panthers pulled away to a 42-22 lead.
“We were hanging in there until the middle of the second quarter. We wanted stop the inside game, but they hurt us with the fastbreak the last four minutes of the half,” said Green coach Bucky Bridges.
Ruffner had 14 points to lead Chesapeake (6-3). Mayo and Bennett had 11 each while Webb added 8.
Adrianne Blankenship had 10 points, 4 steals and 2 assists for Green (4-4). Lauren Jones added 8 points and 6 rebounds while Karlee Pollard had 7 rebounds.
