James Kelley
May 5, 1929 — Feb. 22, 2017

James E. Kelley, 87, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Jo-Lin Health Center, Ironton, with family by his side.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Woodland Cemetery, with officiating by pastor Wayne Rollins.
He was born May 5, 1929, in Ironton, to the late Glenroy and Marie Pasley Kelley.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served as a deacon and faithful volunteer for many years. He retired in 1986 from Armco Steel as a supervisor after 35 years of service. He loved playing golf and was a member of the Ironton Country Club for 25 years
His interests included family, eating (he loved desserts!), golfing and exercising. He devoted the past 14 years to battling Parkinson’s Disease.
Jim is survived by his loving companion, Linda Kelley; brother, Ralph (Marg) Kelley; daughter, Jaime (Ken) Christensen; son, James P. Kelley; daughter, Carol Hanshaw; two granddaughters, Dr. Amanda (Dr. Andrew) Campbell and Samantha (Nick) Razem; three grandsons, Chris Miller, David Miller and Zach (Michelle) Christensen; and three great-grandchildren, Zach Miller, Isabelle and Caraleigh Razem.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Glen Kelley.

Ambrose Long
March 27, 1953 — Feb. 21, 2017
Ambrose Long, 63, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.
The Ironton native was born March 27, 1953, the son of the late Howard and Estella Moore Long. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Tina Sue McSorley Long, who passed away on Dec. 31, 2014.
Ambrose graduated from Rock Hill High School and received his diploma in Micro Computers from Phillips Junior College in Huntington, West Virginia. He also received his Associate of Arts Degree in Applied Science from Ohio University. He was the manager of the Silver Queen Hotel in Arizona and a member of First Baptist Church of Ironton.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Long and Harold Long; and two sisters, Eloise Jenkins and Judy Long.
He is survived by a son, Ambrose Long II, of South Point; a daughter, Mary Estella (Shane Blanton) Long, of Pine Grove; a granddaughter, Autumn Chase Blanton, of Ironton; three sisters, Lucille Sparks and Ruby Mannon, both of Ironton, and Ruth Strong, of Warren; and special nephew, Ronald (Shanna) McSorley.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Melvin Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be made online at www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

Ralph Owens
Feb. 12, 1942 — Feb. 7, 2017

Ralph Edward “Eddie” Owens, 74, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family in the hospital on Feb. 7 2017. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Judith Ann; his son, Ronald; daughter, Kathleen (Brian) Ward; his daughter, Kristina (Marty) Angiulli; and daughter-in-law, Connie Hill.
He was preceded in death by two sons; a sister; and four brothers.
He is survived by four sisters and one brother. He is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ralph was born in Ironton on Feb. 12, 1942, to Bertha and William Owens. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, retiring after 20 years of service in 1980. Following his military service, Ralph continued his career with the United States Postal Service. During this time, he also earned his Bachelor’s of Arts from Tampa College. He spent 20 years serving in the Postal Service and retired in 2002.
Funeral services were conducted earlier this month in Florida.

Vera Clark

Ray Howard
Jan. 17, 1933—Feb. 23, 2017

Ray E. Howard, 84, of Kitts Hill, was released from his earthly body, Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, that had him trapped in recent years as he battled with Parkinson’s Disease.
The Buck Creek, Lawrence County, Ohio native was born Jan. 17, 1933, a son of the late Albert Howard and Margaret Howard Kimes.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marilyn Dever Grant Howard, whom he married Aug. 15, 1991.
Ray and his wife Marilyn, had shared and cherished their lives together to the fullest.
He was the loving father to son, Jim (Debbie) Howard; daughter, Pam (Jerry) Leach; and step-daughter, Robin (Kevin) Napper.
He was the Papal Ray-Ray to TJ (Kim) Howard, Jennifer (Ryan) Howard Besco, Samantha Jo Fields, Josh (Tracy) Fields, LuAnn (Chris) Brislin, Melissa (Skip) Brown, step-grandchildren, Phillip (Jennilynn) Osborne, Morganne Osborne, Austin Osborne, Amanda Gonzalez, Dakota Napper; one special nephew, Tony (Joy) Howard and 20 great grandchildren.
His siblings were Mart Howard, Agnes (Wayne) Heaberlin, Jim (Linda) Howard, Ruth (Buck) Browning and Linda (John) Redmond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, one brother, Don Howard; a daughter, Regina Howard Fields, and a nephew, Darrell Heaberlin.
Ray was a 1950 graduate of Kitts Hill High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. He was the retired CEO of Hecla Water Association, a member of several civic organizations and an over 50-year member of Central Christian Church.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South Seventh Street, Ironton, with Minister Willie Purdee officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Soldiers Plot and visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family would like to ask for donations in his name be made to the Central Christian Church Food Pantry, 1541 S. 7th Street, Ironton, Ohio 45638. Bathsheba Jackson
May 28, 1959—Feb. 24, 2017

Mrs. Bathsheba “Becky” Lynn (Miller) Jackson of Ironton, passed away Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 at Community Hospice in Ashland, Kentucky.
The Ironton native was born May 28, 1959 a daughter to the late Donald Lee Miller and Betty (Cutlip) Hewitt.  Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband of 36 years, James Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson was a graduate of Ironton High School.  Bathsheba went on to receive her certification as a cook at Jackson Vocational School.  She also worked at Liebert, Cabletron, the Open Door School and worked maintenance at CAO.  Becky loved to cook and loved spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Bathsheba is survived by a son, Brian (Tricia) Jackson, of Ironton; two daughters, Rhonda Miller and Helen Miller Ratliff, both of Cocoa Beach, Florida; two grandsons, Aniah Combs and Tyler Ratliff, both of Cocoa Beach, Florida; a sister, Leah (Raymond) Eicher, of Ironton; a brother, Timothy (Gayle) Hewitt, of Chesapeake; a chosen son, Frank Murphy, of Ironton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Woodland Cemetery, with Pastors Rob Hale and Roy Roach officiating.  Burial will immediately follow.
