Ironton aLive met Tuesday to discuss its plans for this year.
The Ironton Farmer’s Market picks back up beginning Friday, May 5 with the grand opening celebration taking place Saturday, May 6.
The Tuesday Night Summer Concert Series, presented by Ironton aLive and Studimo, will kick off at 6:30 p.m. the first Tuesday in June, and continue at the same time each Tuesday through August at the Farmer’s Market. Currently, the group is working on sponsorships and booking musical acts in conjunction with Studimo.
The third annual Taste of Ironton is set for Saturday, June 24 at Farmer’s Market Square and the second annual Ohio River Wine Festival, which will feature Ohio wines, will take place Saturday, Sept. 30 at Holiday Inn Express and Suites.
On Saturday, Oct. 14, the third annual Ironton Heritage Festival will take place at Farmer’s Market Square.
Small Business Saturday will be in downtown Ironton on Saturday, Nov. 25, and the Christmas concerts at the Ironton City Center are set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 16. Performing musical groups will be announced at a later date.
A spring Business After Hours event, in conjunction with the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation, will take place sometime in March or April, and will be announced sometime in the near future.
“We are a business enhancement organization, which is why we have these events,” Ginger Gillenwater, Ironton aLive chairwoman, said. “Events such as the Taste of Ironton highlight what Ironton has to offer. We work on bringing people into our business district, but aim to help all Ironton businesses however we can. That’s why, this year, we are going to focus more on the businesses individually, working with them to make the most of their resources so they can target their consumer bases even more.”
Gillenwater added that the group has seen an increased business interest in downtown with the completion of the new bridge.
“We’ll be helping our businesses more, while simultaneously continuing work on bringing new businesses into Ironton,” Gillenwater said. “We’ll also be focusing more on the marketing of Ironton through infiltration into tourism networks, working more with the other great organizations in Ironton, helping in every way we can with the multi-organizational Ohio Southern Coast initiative, shop local campaigns and giving Ironton a stronger Internet presence.”
Ironton aLive is always seeking help with their events and projects, and Gillenwater said that anyone who is interested in volunteering can contact the group.
“Ironton aLive is a very active organization, and community involvement is something that we strongly encourage,” Gillenwater said.
On Jan. 22, Ironton aLive had its officer election, where Sam Heighton was named the executive director, Gillenwater the chairwoman, Sarah Smith the co-chair, Susan Dooley the secretary and Cindy Anderson the treasurer.
