It seemed fitting that on Senior Night that the seniors would step into the spotlight.
St. Joseph’s three seniors made key contributions as the Female Flyers rolled past the Hannan Lady Wildcats 59-29 on Wednesday.
“It was Senior Night and it was all about the seniors and they all got to start and they all did a great job,” said St. Joseph coach Nick Miller.
“Those seniors have been part of 52 wins during their careers. That’s pretty good for a school with only 29 girls in grades 9-to-12. That’s a testament to those kids. I’m proud of them.”
Senior Morgan Turner scored 13 points and senior Megan Riley had 12 points while sophomore Grace Miller had a career-high 12 points to lead the Female Flyers (10-10).
Senior Ashlee Blankenship had seven rebounds while junior Ashley Bartram and Riley grabbed five each. Riley and freshman Kaitlin Sheridan had three assists each.
The Female Flyers fueled the win with 27 steals. Riley had seven while sophomore Lauren Bush, junior Alyson Johnson and Bartram had four each.
Julie Frazier scored 10 points — all in the second half — to lead the Lady Wildcats (2-13).
St. Joseph came out strong as Riley scored eight points and Turner hit a 3-pointer and scored five points for a 15-0 lead and they led 17-6 at the end of the quarter.
Madison Staggs had four points for Hannan.
Blankenship scored all six of her points in the second quarter as St. Joseph went up 27-12 at the break.
Miller scored five points and Lauren Bush four points as seven different players scored and the Female Flyers extended their lead to 46-20.
Miller scored five points and Turner had four as St. Joseph outscored Hannan 13-9 in the fourth quarter.
St. Joseph visits Parkersburg (W.Va.) Catholic at 7 p.m. on Friday.
